Social Responsibility

Lithium Americas aims to minimize the impact of its operations, both on local communities and on the environment.  The Company is working with these communities to establish and maintain a strong base for their future growth and prosperity.  Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Minera Exar, Lithium Americas has a solid presence with a clear focus on fostering and supporting improvements in local education, health, employment and infrastructure.

With the assistance of its staff anthropologist and psychologist, the Company has developed a plan for community relations that pays particular attention to supporting the surrounding communities and promoting the safety and welfare of its people.  The groundwork of this plan is in accordance with the Ecuador Principles – a set of standards for determining, assessing and managing social and environmental risk in project financing that has been established by the World Bank Group and a consortium of global financial institutions. The Company has, in accordance with these principles, entered into agreements with the aboriginal communities located on the Cauchari and Olaroz Properties which aim to promote social development through high quality job creation, training, access to medical assistance and other much needed infrastructure.

More information on the Company’s involvement with the local communities can be found on the Minera Exar website.
